Gem Cutting Classes

Learn the basics of gem cutting by making your own cabochon.   You will use lapidary saws to create slabs and preforms.  Then you will grind and polish them into finished gemstones as shown above.  No prior experience is required.  The class is open to anyone 18 years or older. 
This class is a prerequisite for joining the Clearwater Lapidary Club.


Classes are held at the Clearwater Nature Center in our Lapidary Workshop.

Cost
     $30 for Prince Georges County residents 
     $39 for Non-residents
  
How to Register
To take this class you must first create an account in the ParksDirect System of Prince Georges County by completing an online form. With that account, you may take any of the dozens of nature classes offered by the County, including ours.  If you do not live in PG County you can do everything online because you will pay the higher rate of $39.


If you live in Prince Georges County, you are eligible for a discount on all classes, clubs and activities. However, you must join/register in person at the Clearwater Nature Center in Clinton, Md during their regular business hours. You will need your Drivers License or other proof of Residency. Their number is (301) 297-4575.  If you don't care about the extra 9 bucks, you can do everything online.

Register Online

Go to https://web1.vermontsystems.com/wbwsc/mdpgparkswt.wsc/splash.html and create an account. Then go to Search-->Activities-->Activities Search at the top of the page. Select Location: Clearwater Nature Center and press the Search Button. The Cabochon Class is usually listed on the the 2nd Page. You can add it to your cart and pay from your account. You can join the Lapidary Club the same day you take the class.
